Make your own wall art using family photos or any image printed with a laser printer or using photocopies. You can use a frame of any size, the frame can be wooden, plastic or metal. You can use any colour for the frame, in this tutorial I am using 1 even coat of Unique Options Hot Chocolate for the base coat. Use 6mm ply (available at any hardware store), cut it to fit into the back of the frame. Paint the ply wood with 2 even coats of your chosen colour. I have used Unique Options Antique White for this project and chosen a printed image. When the painted ply wood has dried, gently sand with 240 grit sandpaper for a smooth finish. Once sanded, centre your image on the ply wood face down and apply a small amount of Unique Options Transfer Fluid to the back of the paper, just enough for the paper to become transparent. Rub over the image with the back of a spoon, lifting a corner of the paper to check progress of transfer. The image will come out clear and defined, for a worn look sand over image with sandpaper. When the base coat on the frame has dried, apply a thin & even coat of Unique Options Quick Weather on all sides of the frame. Allow to dry for approx 30mins. After the Quick Weather has dried, apply the top coat colour of your choice. Load brush with top coat colour, i have used Unique Options Antique White. Wipe back and sides of brush so the paint is sitting on top of the brush, brush on the top coat using one stroke all the way down one side. Reapply paint to brush for each individual side. Weathered look will be immediate. Paint in any missed areas and sand to smooth finish when completely dry. Seal with Unique Options Satin Sealer. Apply 2 coats of sealer over the transferred image and when dry, place image into frame. And you're finished!!!
